MoTown's 'Dream Cruise'........

Just back from this year's Dream Cruise and it seemed bigger and far more expanded than last years! This is a yearly car gathering phenomena that spans about 16+ miles of Woodward Blvd that goes through 7 communities and is practically totally packed with camped-out onlookers watching the myriad of cars cruise by none stop! It's one big weekend party!

Admittedly I was driving the only X5, that I saw, but I was right next to a '09 Maserati Grand Tourismo and right behind a Porche and a VW ('Passat', I believe it was). There were several out-of-state cars cruising. too.

Maybe next year the local (and visiting) X5'ers can get together and roll the 4+ hr. circuit?

I guess I am out of it. When I saw the title, I expected to read about you being on a ship in the Caribbean with Diana Ross, et al.

This year it literally started in Pontiac, where Woodward Ave. ends - loops around - and extended all the way to the city of Ferndale, which borders Detroit. The 'official' date was Saturday, August 15th, but the partying started Friday night and extended to Sunday night.

BMWCCA had an event the wednesday before at that coffee beanery. unfortunately too busy to attend.

i live very close to the center of the dream cruise. threw a BBQ party, although had to block all the spots in front of my house to allow parking for my friends. great time!

I have seen the Cruise 3 times over the past several years, (as recent as last year), but unfortunately,(and coincidentally), I have been there for funerals; thus, the Cruise viewing was brief and my mental health was not up to par to enjoy it, but it is a remarkable "assembly" and slow/low speed "cruise" of some fine azz cars...

And, good memories of "The Ave", as we called Woodward Ave, back in the early-mid '60s, when we would run all night from burger drive in to burger drive in, racing anyone, from every stop light, from 8 Mile Road to the "Big Stop Lights" in Bloomfield Hills.

Some of the "cars" out there then, were barely street legal and wrenched to the max, driven by the young & creative car mfg'er engineers of the time. While the area was always "populated", it is a very different place today then it was 40+ years ago, and our reckless abandon at red light racing was careless and dangerous, but almost all of us got through it in one piece. Sunoco 260 was less than 25Cts a gallon and
the fast times were different, then.
