Looking to pick up an X5

Whats up guys, im new here not new to bimmers though. Recently lost my 3 and now im looking to grab an X series to stay with the family. Ive got a bunch of questions and the search tool didn't really help me all that much.

Anyway im looking for a nice x5 or 3 and i want it stick. Is it only the 3.0s that come in stick? And how are they in stick, im figuring since its a bmw and there trying to one up the porsche cayenne turbo it has to be good.

Ive seen some go for around 12-15 is it possible to snag a nice one for that price, like an 02-03. Im pretty sure the 3.0 is a straight six like the ones in the e46 330s and similiar to the 2.5s in the 325, so that being said if they are the same they ill be able to work on them.

Also i was pretty into modding my last car im fine with being a pioneer but you guys deffinatly have more stuff out there than what im seeing. What are some good sites that cover a bunch of x5 mods and aftermarket parts.
I here you guys talking about 4.6is kits and such but i haven't seen them.

Lastly, this might sound like a stupid question but ive never driven an X5.. yet. What happens when you push an X5 to limit? I know they dont roll, but i wouldn't suspect the designers to let it understeer. It is an SUV though and i keep forgetting that.

Anyway thanks for the help and i hope to be a part of the family again soon enough.

Welcome to the Board...
'01 thru '03 manual trans was a 5 spd. I have one. They went to a 6 spd manual
in '04: simply added a slightly overdriven 6th gear. 1st gear in both the 5/6 spd
is a stump puller. Also, the 5 spd gives fairly high rpms at highway speeds; the
6 spd alleviates that to a degree. Manual trans available only on the 3.0 IL 6.

Either 5 spd or 6 spd will be very hard to find, as the build % was tiny, imo.

Both are fairly bulletproof unless orig owner was doing hole shots; both have
the CDV which can be removed/replaced or, learn to live with it.

I would rec'd "Sport Pkg" regardless of what X5 you got, as the handling is very,
very good with that added suspension calibration/wheel&tire pkg.

The X is no sports car, but for its weight/higher CoV, it is a remarkable handling
car...
Hit a dlr and go drive some; 3.0 IL 6 or the V8.

Thanks man. And yeah i see what you mean ive been browsing autotrader and stuff like that and manuals are scarce. If I could choose id say stick, sports package, black leather and good condition. Thats all I want the rest of the stuff I can live with or mod to my liking.
Sounds pretty sweet though, im liking the sound of all this.

And yeah im the kind of guy that would remove the CDV.

^ looks like a perfect match.

It is very hard to find a 3.0 Stick with the sport package, I searched myself for a time. I think 3.0 stick is the perfect ride for you as it sounds like you're into handling. You just need suspension if you get the non sport version as the ride is very soft.

Well I moved to SoCal (I spend most of my week in LA) so I don't use the awd much.

Also rowing gears in LA stop and go gets old. It's a great ride and deserves a good home
