The X5 is at the STEALER right now....WTF!!!!

The "service engine soon" light came on last week.....took it to the stealer...thinking...hoping that it was an O sensor or just something with the gas cap......turns out the CAM sensor...is shot....the control arms are cracked and the bushings...dry rotted.....the cv joint boots...need to be replaced...and the thing that made the light come on is something called an Emmisions pump!

That I stilll need to do the belts...and have the 60K service coming up.....I brought an after market warranty...talk about a worthless piece of crap...the control arms and the bushings is a $850 job in total...they are only covering $495 of that. So stay away from Contiental Warranty....they are full of shit....the hoops they make you jump through are insane....there is a deductable and they only pay a service rate of $40 per hour....they want you to use an independant mechanic....today is going to be $1250 day....there goes my running boards and exhaust.

Those MODS will wait till spring now...

IF the X5 does not settle down after this...it is going to find it self in a dark alley on the wrong side of town with the keys in it....running.....

I like to think of it as tough love!

All this and the wifey drove the 330xi last friday and is now getting all hot and bothered about it...

The hits just keep on coming.....

sorry to hear about that . As the Murphy's law states anything that can go wrong will go wrong. The problem is that sometime everything goes wrong at the same time. I like to compare the X5 to a model girl, very pretty but could be quite expensive to live with. BTW your after market warranty indeed sucks .

Maybe after the repairs will be a good time to sell..You could share the 330 with the misses...Nice rides!

The only good thing about several repairs at once is that, if under some sort of insurance, you have hit your deductible!

Good luck. And please forgive your X5. She didn't mean to be bad!

I don't consider any SUV to be like an attractive women. I'd considering living with the headache if it was a Porsche 911, Lotus Elise, M3, Z06, but not a SUV.

Rick,

It is your car telling you that it is time to trade in for a 4.6is or 4.8is...

I think any BMW, (or Vette, Ferrari, Lotus, et al), outta warranty, is sorta like dating a knockout nude dancer: she looks terrific on your arm, is a Lot of fun, but is guaranteed to break your heart.

Sorry to read your Ext Warr. let you down...I bought WarrDirect and read the fine print: it too, is not bulletproof, but decent in terms of coverage, hourly rate, etc.
GL with your situ. BR,md

Heartbreak hotel !

Roc3b : my X has had both cam sensors replaced. Bank 1 at 58k and bank 2 at 67k. They seem to 'fail' on schedule. Sorry to hear about all the other items needing attention on your X. FWIW, your warranty sucks big time.

MD : I laughed my butt off at your post. My X extended warranty runs out March '06; but I LOVE her !! She's awesome, looks great, performs great and I'm addicted. Perhaps I'm wearing rose tinted spectacles........
