Gumball and Meet

A couple of months ago I watched on MTV a "Gumball3000". To me it seem like it was a race for exotic cars you know (Bimmers,Benz,Porsche and Ferrari) the usual . The race was from London to Moscow it seem like who ever got there first got a trophy. My question is is a "Gumball" the same as a "Meet"?

The "Original": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannonb...al_Trophy_Dash

Gumball slipped in to the lexicon via the term "gumball", eg the old round red or blue light some cop cars had planted in the middle of the roof back in the '70s. Gumball has evolved to mean a balls out crazy, fast, long distance race.

When Brock Yates and some Car & Driver magazine and other ass't crazies ran it back in the early to mid-'70s, and reported on it, (there wasn't 24/7 media coverage ad nauseum then), it blew most of us car nuts' minds!

Give the arts. a peruse...interesting stuff.

Also made at least 3 movies about it, 2 with Burt Reynolds and a bunch of hollywood names, 1 with Chris Sarandan 'Gumball Rally' - the Brock Yates thing happened when the only radar detector out there was the 'Fuzzbuster' - today with helicopters, spike strips, interstate cooperation, ignition killer electronics - a cross country race or rallye pretty much a garranteed jail sentence
