Silenced Warning Bell

I have silenced the warning bell in my 01 X5 4.4. It was driving me nuts. Now I can listen to music with the car off and the doors open or back out of the garage without the seat belt on.

It was easy, the bell is located in the panel under the dashboard. Remove the panel, locate the bell (a black cylinder), open the cylinder and snip one wire to the speaker. The cylinder needed a little finesse to open, I dremmeled the four tabs holding it together to open it easily. The bell also acts as the front park distance warning, so I spliced a hidden switch near the bell if I want it to operate.

I love my X5 even more now. I didn't need one more thing in my life telling me what to do!

Enjoy.

The bell was caused by key in ignition while the door is opennd. You can listen to music without the key in ignition. Maybe I missed something here.

Push the radio volume button in to power on and off. You do not need to have the key in or turned to ACC for the radio to work.

Or, when you "stop", open door & get beeps, pull key, beeps stop, reinsert key. A couple of ways to go at it. I'm w/01X5 above.

I think it only works if you don't open the driver door after you turn the ignition off. It's in the manual.

That does not work on all models. Mine needs the key in and turned to power on the radio.
