Towing an X5 behind motorhome

Hi everyone,
haven't been on the site in a while. Thanks again to everyone's help regarding the SES codes, killcrap did a great job.

Next question, can my 01' x5 be towed behind a motorhome??

Thanks for the replies.

i've seen that before..not necessarily on an x5. but it always made me question, how good could that be for the car and wouldnt the car get an unbelievable amount of chips from the rocks shot up from the motorhome?

absolutely NOT... being an AWD vehicle with no way to put the transfer case in netural eleminates it from being towed on the ground. You would need too haul the x5 on a trailer instead.

While it doesn't make much sense to tow a pre X-drive X5, you can in fact do it. The manual states a limit of 70 kph (45 mph) for a maximum distance of 150 km (95 miles), for flat towing with all four wheels on the ground. There is a similar but different limit for towing on a front-wheel dolly, with only the rear wheels turning (50 kph for 150 km maximum)

Practically, I agree that only a flat deck trailer makes sense for a dinghy on a motorhome. Going one step further, a Jeep YJ or Suzuki with a real transfer case makes even more sense, or a FWD vehicle with a single-axle dolly.

Just looking for a quick solution to getting dad's motorhome to MI and a way to get back for me. Don't have time to buy something with transfer case adaptation. Thanks

Thanks Derek - that's what we thought. If you dropped the drive shaft it could probably be done but too much of a mess. Thanks
