Newbie shopping for '03~'04 X5, need some help....

Hello,

Newbie here shopping around for either a used '03 or '04 X5 3.0 as a secondary vehicle.

Can anyone help me point out what the most significant changes between the '03 and '04 3.0 models are, for both the interior and exterior features? I was originally shopping for '04 and up models, but I figured if the changes aren't that dramatic, just stick with a '03. Any suggestions?

Thanks and look forward to the responses

Looks like a "Super" theme is starting

Most significant change for 04's is the facelift

04s also have Valvetronic engines and X-drive, right? From what I hear, the X drive is a huge improvement over the previous 4 wheel drive setup. The Valvetronic engines added horsepower, but some have complained that they do not feel as quick as the '03s. Also, '04 models got 6 speed transmissions (at least the V8 engines did).

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the PM. Sounds like a great deal, and I would jump on it, but I'm in southern California and you're in Jersey

Welcome, Super. I too have been bitten by the X bug. I was initially torn between the ML55 and the X5 but have since come to the conclusion that no one comes close to the X. My problem is either 02 4.6 or 03 or 04 4.4.

I'm in Washington DC and am searching as far away as IL. Looking for the right one baby!

Great board...very helpful.

IMO, the X5 is the best looking out there. I was also looking at the Porsche Cayenne-S, but didn't see too many good reviews surrounding it in terms of mechanical quality. The base model Cayenne reviews seem worse. On the otherhand, the ML55 is a nice car, but my mother drives an ML, so you get the picture why I wouldn't want to be driving one of those

Bmw claims there are over 2000 new parts in the 04. Xdrive is probably biggest change, new engine for the 4.4 and 4.8 replace 4.6, new face lift etc...
