Transmission

I recently had my 2001 X5's transmission slipping in reverse only. I drives fine in forward. I was thinking of having the transmission flushed and the fluid replaced. It has 96K miles. Any thoughts to the problem and if flushing and changing the fluids will help?

You're more than likely due for a new trany or rebuild.

Transmission place called today. My 2001 X5 4.4 is slipping in reverse. Forward there is no problems. Told me this is a common problem. Kit to fix the issue with a piston and cylinder, costs $480, plus $1500 in labor. Anyone heard of this problem and is this a reasonable cost.

Interesting site. Seems to be more dedicated to the 3 series problems with the reverse clutch failure. Different transmission than the X5 AFAIK.

Love the comments posted on that site from the losers who purchased a 100,000 mile used car, 9 years old, and then it failed right after they bought it. They thought they 'made out like a bandit' because the car was so cheap. Now they think it is BMW's fault for a poor original design. Classic.

Don't waste your money on flushing in refilling the fluid unless you plan to do it yourself. I was quoted $700 from BMW to flush mine. In the end BMW North America replace the transmission
