lights on the upper door of the trunk

i have turned off the lights on the interior for the sake of conserving the battery power however i was wondering how to turn off the lights in the trunk, often i would be unloading things from it, groceries etc and for long periods of time, being able to turn it off would be great, advise please! thanks

Take the bulbs out

I think they go out on their own after awhile, but I think that is a long while. Not aware of any switch to manually turn them off.

This question came around on the Jukebox, way back in the early E53 days,
when most of us originals were over on RoadToad...from fading memory, I
recall there was no way to turn those overhead tailgate lights off. And, though
I haven't tested them in awhile, I seem to recall they do not turn off in that
15' window either, but I could be mistaken on that memory.

My lights came loose about a half dozen times, and the dlr basically quit trying
fix them, back in the warranty days, so I have the right side light taped in place...

My '04 does shut those off after about 15-20 minutes, but there doesn't seem to be a way to shut them off manually. IMHO, there should always be a way to manually shut off every single light on any vehicle, but then again, it must be a BMW thing, just like only having a single lock cylinder on the entire vehicle

One of my inner tailgate lights was missing when I bought the truck, never bothered to replace it.

The only way I can think of to turn it off would be to latch the upper gate latch, making it think the lid is closed... I do that in the shop with all the doors and tailgate when checking for battery draws etc.
