4.6is-ish tips off ebay? please help.

hi, ive read the forums but am still confused on the best way to change the tips for the x5 3.0 w. sports package (2002),

i was looking at these on ebay:

BMW X5 Exhaust Tips Stainless Steel 01 02 03 04 05 06:eBay Motors (item 400071634835 end time Oct-05-09 11:59:43 PDT)

Would these look cheap? do i need to cut the old tips off? does this make sense to do? what are my options. thankss

all they are chrome covers. just like the OEM ones. So they go over your original tips and make them chrome..

these will look awfully ugly. get OEM 4.6is has them done properly.

vivanov1, naz24 is right. they are tips and they have a hole in the bottom for the slanted pipe. I bought a set like them and did not really like the look. I also found they caused part of the exhaust to be redirected at the base of the bumper leaving carbon residue. Furthermore they were still quite loose even after doing up as tight as possible as they only rely on a worm drive clamp to hold them in position.

The 4.6is tips look great but will set you back a fair bit by the time you have a y-pipe installed and the tips welded on. I had a local exhaust specialist cut off the old tips and weld on some stainless AMG oval "look a like" type dual pipes and I think it looks awesome. I would post but copped a lot of flak for my last posting so not that interested in getting others opinions on my exhaust - My advice would be do what you like, that is what matters. Cutting off the old slanted tips and going with a weld on option would be my advice.
