BMW X5 4.4 vs Cayenne s

I recently purchased a 2004 X5 4.4 for my wife , have been very happy with the car. I just drove my friends Cayenne S and am blown away by its performance.....Now i am having buyers remorse. The Porsche feels so much faster , revs faster and feels like a sports car more than SUV. BMW feels much heavier and not as nimble, although on th positive side i like BMW interiors and smooth V8. it just lacks the guts of porsche.

why is there so much difference ? both cars weigh about the same have similar 0-60 and close enough hp/tq

is it just a porsche magic ? I am a owner of 911 Turbo too and really appreciate Porsches in general.

The 4.4 has way less horsepower (20-30) than the S and is about half a second+/- slower to 60. A 4.6is is more comparable with an S. The 4.8is is faster.

Cayenne S has 340 hp and 2004 X5 4.4 has 315 , X5 has about 15 more TQ than Cayenne...so 25 HP cant be making that much difference. Porsche is 4.5 L and X5 is 4.4l . It must be the gearing. Its not half a second slower.. Please see below the specs for Porsche vs BMW

Cayenne S 2006
Displacement 4.5 liters
Horsepower (SAE) 340 hp
@ rpm 6,000 rpm
Torque 310 lb-ft
@ rpm 2,500-5,500 rpm
Compression ratio 11.5 : 1

Performance
Top track speed 150 mph
0-60 mph 6.8 sec
MSRP $ 57,200.00

BMW X5
X5 4.4i now offers 315 horsepower (an increase of 25 ponies) and the same stout 324 pound-feet of torque. Driving through a new six-speed automatic, the new 4.4i can sprint to 60 mph in just 6.8 seconds, about a half-second quicker than before.

the cayenne hands down is a better vehicle i'm sorry to say. i've driven 4.8is as well on the cayenne base all the way to the GTS, definitely better performance all round from the porsche platform.... until the X5M and X6M make its way to the market!

Now that's a honest answer...Thanks. I am already feeling like that...Even though i like the X5 , never thought the difference was night and day. X5 feels like a boat...no character...

It does...

Like I said, look at the 4.6is if you want a more fair comparison. It has 340 hp (same as what you quoted for the S) and 350 lb. ft. of torque. It will hit 60 in 6.2 seconds according to BMW.

I understand ...i am just baffled by the S, Just dont get how it accelerates like a race car...with all specs being the same as X5. I thought i should give BMW a chance again in the SUV dept...i guess i was wrong.

I am thinking ot must be the BMW gearing which must suck...
