Software update helped me quite a bit. But I have an E70, though.

have e53 and updated the both tranny and engine software. Made a difference. 100 bucks for the tech to plug in.

Sorry to hear that. How many miles on the transmission? was there anything done like fluid change or... prior to this happening?

Evolver, I was thinking the same thing.

Isn't your transmission slipping and in need of rebuild/replacement? If so then why are you fretting a rough downshift? Just get the prices of a *complete* rebuild with new converter etc. and for a complete unit through the dealer, make the choice and get on to the good part! Driving with a new transmission and all fresh software/adaptations in the transmission and engine will make it feel like a new truck to you... and that is when you fall in love with her again.

To be honest with you I am in love with the X but within the past 5 months its been a pain after pain with tons of different little tiny problems, all fixable yet annoying.

Anyways, long story short I cant seem to find time to rebuild the tranny because I need it on a daily basis right now and there is no way I can afford to miss a day without a car. I will try to get it done ASAP though.

I hear alot of people doing a simple software update and fixing the problem, do you think its possible on my end?

If so how much would the dealer cost to do a software upgrade on the transmission & engine?

If it was just a harsh shifting problem then I'd say yeah, but don't you have slippage issues as well?

Its more like after an hour or more of driving on the highway I dont move and the RPMs just fly.... I park the car and wait around 10-20 mins and its fine until i drive again for another like 20-30 mins... but the hard down shift is constant, it wont stop and its so annoying!

Is there an instrument cluster or MID trick to determine the version number of the engine and transmission software? I've got the GM transmission, and it slipped into failsafe mode a couple of weeks ago (but quickly recovered after giving her time by herself), but there is a sporadic delay from 2nd to 3rd and 1st to 2nd.
