road rage?

...So I'm on I95 heading north near Springfield in the dc metro area today with my daughters. It was about 4:10 when a silver Ford F150 with a bunch of dents blows my doors off followed way too closely by a silver X5 4.? trying to take the lead. It had nice rims 19s or 20s but moving too fast to get a good look. Mind you I'm in the far left lane at about 75. The X eventually took the lead but remained challenged by the F150. These two were driving like they had just stolen both cars. They were so reckless, weaving between cars I was expecting either a convoy of state troopers or a multicar pile up. please, oh god please tell me the X was not piloted by one of our members.

Sometimes it isn't difficult to get pulled into a situation like that. Two weeks after I got my 2005 X5 3.0, I was cruising the highway by myself around 3 pm and then I thought maybe I should check what it was like inside the X at 100mph. I wasn't really anxious to see its performance since mine is only an online six and I definitely didn't buy it for speed.

Well, surprisingly, I hit 100 pretty quickly and it was comfortably quiet inside. I was actually pleased that it felt like I was going 60 but the speedo was already glued at 100! Then I saw a Honda in front and his exhaust blackened a bit which tells me that the jerk floored it so I cannot pass. I pressed on and I was just about to pass him when it occurred to me that it would be a 100 mph race from there with my unbroken X5 (about 400 miles) so immediately I slowed back down to 45 and let him go on. ( He knew I would have passed easily anyway)

Well about a mile away later, I saw a cop car with lights blazing and following the poor sucker Honda

It would have been my first speeding ticket in more than 30 years!

I agree fully and if my kids had not been with me I might have ran right along with them BUT it was still reckless behavior. To show off is one thing but this was down right dangerous and I like to think we X5ers are above that.

Wasn't me, although that is in my neck of the woods. You were driving through possibly the most hazardous interchange on the East Coast when you saw that. Not only do you have out of area traffic to contend with (drivers largely unfamiliar with the road), you have construction there, uneven and swiss cheese pavement, the lanes shift 3 times a total of about 50 yards to the West between the Franconia exit and the 395/495/95 interchange and traffic is typically high volume. Those drivers were maroons.

Unless the F-150 has a half dozen nekkid chicks in the bed, no chance I'd run with it. You get the pink slip of an F-150 on paper in any X- be it X3 or X5, no actual racing necessary.

I average 90 - 95 out here in San diego when it's late. I went at it with an Acura RSX that tried to rev me but he got wtfpwned! 120 mph with ease....sweet!

Theres just something about 340 hp under the hood that really makes me want to burn a lot of dino fuel. I am addicted to the rush when I hit the pedal. I am normally a very conservative driver, but the 4.6is brings the devil out in me..

That was most likely a teenager taking his Dad's X5 for a ride.
