Yes. Aren't all the 4.8is the 6 speed? So is this normal then?

imo i don't believe it's a problem, my experience with a 4.8is lead me to believe that it seemed to be constantly hunting for gears in lower rpm range, perhaps a result of the 6th gear the higher rpm range was sharp and responsive. I never had this issue with the 4.6is' 5 gears.

I've heard other owners complain about this but i think it's a natural function. Some have opted for Dinan software or sprintbooster for more responsiveness in lower gears.

You wrote this in one of your posts in this thread:

"""Love your ride mate.

Now you say your X doesn't do it?
Also my X revs up thru each gear all the way to redline,i have no issues with the way the car performs,it's just that little hesitation at 1500rpm that will happen every 2 seconds or so if you keep it steady at 1500rpms does not make a difference if you are in sport mode or not,if you are at 1500 cruising at highest gear it will do it.

Hi there. Congrats on the X!

Is the hesitation you're talking about at 1500, every 2 secs or so, more like:

1) Ignition type of hesitation? Like lack of fuel or misfire?

Or

2) The tranny hunting and pecking for the right gear. Like its kicking down a gear then upshifting?

If it's number 1 then I'd get the X diagnosed as that's not normal. If it's #2, you can try the tranny reset or whatever they call it. I forgot the procedure but it only takes 20-30 secs to do and you don't have to take it to the dealer. Do a search and you'll find it.

When I reset my tranny it helped but would eventually go back. The tranny adapts to your driving style after the reset. Also, the tranny reaches 6th gear quickly and is normal ... as I believe BMW did that for fuel economy purposes.

Good luck!

- Jose

Looks like we have twins! A fantastic car to drive when everything is working right. The leaning? welcome to the club of air suspension owners. Pump the car up, take a spray bottle of thin soapy water spray all over the air bladder of the strut. Watch for tiny bubbles. I had to replace the two front ones on mine. I have the same transmission problem, plus some slipping in 3rd. The dealer so far isnt much help because they cant "reproduce" it. It only happends in 5th gear, at low speed, usually between 20 and 40mph. My thinking is that it is in 5th geatr and its trying to downshift into 4th, but halfway through, it changes its mind. Dont know why they cant reproduce it. It only happends all the time when anybody in my family drives it.
