The Porsche Cayenne is basically a Volkswagen Toureg rebadged the only differences being a new interior and engine/suspension variations.

I test drove a Cayenne (Not S) but it felt too bulky and it lacked the solid feel of an X5. Plus I don't know what they were thinking with the 90's era taillights and triangle steering wheel.

Maybe so, but whereas the BMW X5 is rated okay to better than average by Consumer Reports, the Cayenne is rated poor. Basically, Porsche (and BMW to a lesser extent as the newest X5's seem fairly reliable) does cars best. I don't think the Cayenne is worth considering as a result.

The BMW seems the better overall choice for a "blended" sporty/AWD/ultility vehicle. Of course, if you really want the best utility 4x4 vehicle, better run from the BMW, and buy the King of Kings: Toyota Land Cruiser.

I've had the chance to race 05 4.4i against a cayenne S and the whole time it was at the rear door. The owner was very nice and gave me a thumbs up on the way past me when we slowed down. What I'm saying is the cayenne may feel faster to you but in a race they are very close and the outcome will depend on the driver. Does yours have the sport package?

Sale your 4.4 and get the 4.6is or 4.8is. You will not be disappointed. My brother has an 05 Cayenne S and it feels heavier.

No sports pkg , it has pretty much every other option. You maybe right about it feeling fast and sounding better. We are going to race this weekend just for fun and see what happens. My buddy thinks he will destroy me ...I feel the Cayenne s takes off fast right from the get go...The X5 takes a while and then it takes off...

I am also afraid of breaking transmission by going from dig. My mechanic told me that's the #1 cause of transmision related issues.

There is a big difference between Cayenne and Cayenne S , just like 3.0 and 4.4. Its just i never expected the 911 kind of feeling in an SUV , it just revs so fast and sounds sweet. Very eddy car ...X5 feels heavy and relaxed.

None of us built the darn things, this is a forum for a helping hand. I am sorry that you are having buyer's remorse. You bought it for your wife, what does she think? The people you are talking down to have been driving these for years and probably have some good insight (not me, by any means). Relax and take a deep breath.

No he wasnt aware of it ...that's okay. Its all good. But you have a point ...its ,my wifes car...i shouldnt worry. I have the 911 TT for my cravings...just came away stunned at the perf of the cayenne s.

I'm guessing if you had the sports package with bigger staggered wheels and stiffer suspension you would think of the x5 differently. I know it won't make it sound better or go faster but you'll notice the x5 feels a lot more awake.

I don't think one or two hard take offs will do anything bad. I do it all the time and no problems. (knock on wood).
