Clunk!

I'm having a loud clunk noise coming from the front end when the steering wheel is turned all the way to the right and going up inclines or bumps. From searching, I'm guessing its either the sway bar end links, thrust rod bushings, or something else. Can you guys help out? The car just went out of warranty like 6 days ago. It's an 05 4.8is with 27k miles btw.

Hey man, I was a little reluctant to post because I had the issue and got it resolved but I don't want to tell you the wrong thing. When turning the wheels for a 90ish degree turn (like into the driveway or out of the garage), there was a clunk. I'm not at home, so I don't have access to my receipts. I know I got front wheel bearings replaced, but will have to double check if there was anything else done on that repair. It was under factory warranty at the time, so I wasn't too thorough with examining the bill.

I would bet thrust bushings. Have someone inch the car forward and watch the wheel. If it "moves" front to rear (it should not) they are bad. My "new to me" 4.8 needs them. Dealer verified.

6 days out of warranty? My dealer comp'ed me on two seperate issues a month after my exp... you might just ask your dealer for the same treatment.

There is a TSB out on wheel bearings (though I don't have it handy) that exhibit this exact symptom.

I have the same problem, intermittently, on my X5 and the thrust bushings are new so that's not it. Sway bar links are good too.

When it goes into the dealer for the oil change (maint. plan purchased by previous owner, tyvm), I'll have them look at it since it is a CPO X5.

I wonder how I can get a hold of this tsb..... I have also had some high-pitched squealing/seizing when the car is driven moderately hard. The dealer told me that I was probably a rock stuck between the pad and the rotor. However, I notice the sound when the brakes are not applied.
