2002 X5 4.4 in Gulf region looking for NAVI

Dear X5 Forum,

I just acquired an older X5 to haul stuff around town sometimes, and noticed the navigation dvd is missing. I called the dealer, but what they want for it is just outrageous, at least for me since the car isnt even a DD.

Can anyone here help me get DVD or back up of their navigation software for a fella new X5 owner?

Any help would be extremely appreciated!!!

You want the software itself or the maps?

About the maps, BMW do not encrypt the maps of all the countries, I don't know about Emirates, but it seems they only provide the maps for europe and USA... and don't try to crack or encrypt your maps, you just won't succeed... their encryption is so damn complicated...

I'm looking for the DVD that goes in the back of the car. The previous said somebody took it from the car. The navigation works in dubai, I just don't know what is the difference between the software and the maps.

I'm assuming there is just one cd/dvd that goes in the player unit in the back? (above the cd changer) and thats the one missing . . .

Ok, this same drive in the back, can be used for 2 different things:

- It can be used to download a new software version (new interface, different fucntionalities, etc...) and this is done once whenever you want to update your current version. There are plenty of threads about the different NAV systems and their versions...

- In normal operation, there should be a a CD/DVD (Depending on MK you have, again, many threads to check which one you have). This CD/DVD has the maps of teh country/state you are in. For example, when i got my X, it had the california CD (precious owner state)... I asked BMW Lebanon about having a CD with Lebanon maps to put it instead, but they said that BMW did not develop the maps for Lebanon... I tried to create a CD with the maps encrypted like BMW encryption, but all people in the field told me it's not achievable.. so I ended up purchasing a NUVI205 with the Lebanese maps and points of interests, and it's fantastic!
