Dealer work order codes

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in deciphering the work order codes on a dealer warranty repair order? I picked up the history (some printed and some just a look) for the last 6 years. I can see that they have the designation for the "advisor" then the "tech" then J# (job number?) but he operation and description are cryptic. A couple of examples are;
  • 32BMZ400 Steering column
  • 37BMZ Integrated Susp
  • 61BMZ
  • 12BMZ Electrical
Just wondering if anyone could possibly shed some light on these. also looks like the entire control module was replaced after 2 years. Is that common? Thanks for your possible help in advance!

Mike

Thoses are BMW's Group Codes

goto realoem.com for current parts listing, everything is based off these codes.

say there was something wrong with the vehicle and bmw releases a TSB about it,

well the TSB would start with SIB(group number, Article #, and then year) EG. 122208

if you need parts for the engine, the first 2 numbers would be 11

entire control unit is kinda vague. there can be up to 30 different control units in a well equipped X5.

It was the engine ECU. looks like it failed after 3 years or they replaced it for whatever reason. No transmission issues ever though. Just stuff like trim, weatherstrip, one regulator etc.
