4.8is vs 4.8i comparison

Have you guys driven an '07 4.8i? How do you like it in comparison the E53 4.8is? Which do you prefer and why? I'm going back and forth between the two as to which one to get.

No comparison...apples to oranges. IMO only similarity is utility and neither are off-road capable. If you must compare the two performance-wise, aside from upgraded electronics advantage of 4.8i, compare against 2004-2006 4.4i...

A search on the comparison will yield plenty of experiences and feedback.

stock for stock I think the 4.8i (sport) beats the 4.8is in the handling department, however you definitely notice the added size.

Some may consider me biased since i drive a 4.6iS but i prefer 4.8iS handling over E70. IMO it felt sportier and had better road-feedback over the 4.8i. Have you actually driven both?

OP...test drive for yourself and you will know the differences. At the end of the day, it's your experience, preference, and money.

Oh, so they toned the new 4.8i down in lieu of the upcoming X5M?

Basically, yes...the E70 4.8i is the new entry level V8 as was the case of the 4.4i. The X5 & X6 ///M are already on the streets. Next up is the X5 4.4L twin turbo V8 (50i).

Yeah I have. The E70 felt softer, more subdued.

the 2005 4.4 in its time is like the 2007 4.8i now

the 2005 4.8is in its time was like the new x5 M

bmw just didnt want to name the 4.8is an "M" car.. but it basically was that.

so there just look at it like that

the 05 4.8is zero to 60 was 5.9-6.0.. skidpad is .83

the 07 4.8i zero to 60 is 6.4.-6.5...skidpad is .82

so the handling is basically the same... the zero to 60 on the 4.8is is deff faster..
