2004 X5 4.4 going into "Engine Failsafe Mode"...

I have had this message pop up five times. The first two were cleared at the dealer and they said they could not replace anything until it happens multiple times. They said to drive it and if it was really a problem it would come back. The vehicle went into this mode three more times in 150 miles. It is currently at the dealer and they have no clue. Has anyone had similar issues? The vehicle only has 59k on it. It is very unsafe when the vehicle goes into failsafe on the freeway! Originally they said it seemed to a faulty DME.
