If I decide to do the performance engine software ($399), do I also need the performance automatic transmission software too (299)?

No, you don't HAVE to.

By the way, wasn't this the place that a lot of people chimed in on another thread saying you were being charged a rediculous hourly rate for as far as indy's are concerned?

Thumbs up

Here's my input on Dinan stuff...especially for the E53 X5...You will not regret it!

My wife's '04 X5 4.4i has Dinan CIA, TB, Engine SW, Tranny SW & Exhaust...This thing is a beast (not as much as the 4.8i would be with the same mods)!!! And especially if you tow...4th gear at 70 mph while towing may Aluminum car trailer & E46 M3 or E90 M3...hit the gas & you still pull hard!!! Best money spent!!!

Also, I have had Dinan in all my BMWs, except for my new E90 M3 (keeping the performance almost stock...family car) & do not regret getting any Dinan product. I have NEVER had an issue with any of the Dinan products I have or had. Not one issue with the S3-R S/C on my E46 M3 & it's been in the car since Oct. '06!

Yeah he's isn't the cheapest shop in town. I was just giving a heads up to anyone in the area interested in Dinan modded cars. It's not like I'm going to get my brakes done.

Thanks for the insight. I'm pretty sure I'll start with the stage 1 performance software.

Get an intake manifold from a pre-VANOS M62 motor and you've got the complete package. I've seen them go for as little as $50 on ebay.
