More X5 Water Issues
Then the rain started. I knew the floor was getting wet and haven't had a chance to check the roof drains. Well all of a sudden the radio stops working when I hit the brakes and soon stops working at all. Water starts dripping from the overhead console where the sunroof controls are. Now I feel like the Dope that spent all this money on a BMW. Well this sat. I was trying to fish the roof drains and no go. I happened to see a post with water in the back of the X5. I checked and sure enough my amp was in ~2" of water. I will have to look for a replacement that I don't have money for. Then I pull the A-Piller off the passenger side and this is what I found. see pics. I am not a happy camper. I had to pull the carpet out of the passenger side and not being able to have the vehicle out of commision I had to cut it under the console so I can dry it out....I would love to know how the drain tube ended up in this condition....Live and learn.... |

I would make a call to the dealer the previous owner would have been serviced at and have them look up the service history for any repairs that the a-pillar cover would have been taken off for. That hose isn't even supposed to be pinched in the clips like that... much less all the kinks and bends.
Don't fret too much over cutting the carpet under the console, a few cable ties will hold it together and you will never know it was cut afterwards. The carpet is pretty stiff with all that water-loving padding. But the hose not being in the tube didn't cause water to come from the overhead console, that would be caused by the hose being pinched/kinked/clogged. (and I do see a kink) I'd blow out all 4 drain tubes with air pressure (after properly routing) then test the drains individually by pouring water in the sunroof rain channels with the glass open. Also, the right front drain hose being kinked wouldn't directly cause water in the left rear at the amp... that is gonna be the rear drain hose. Did you buy the X5 for a dealer or individual? If from a dealer you should be able to get the repairs/amp done under goodwill or just covered by the dealer internally. Wonder if they just dod some sort of sunroof repair and messed up all the drain hoses...?

Looks like someone did a botched repair job. Did you buy it from the dealership?
