regular maintenance

so i was at the bmw dealer today, those of you who read my other thread will know why. and the service advisor tells me i need a brake flush and a belt? he said this is regular maintenance that should be done.

so my question is: how often, and how much is it?

edit: also, are they possible DIYs?

There is a DIY for the belt, but I had my mechanic do it. I bought the belts/pulleys from Bav Auto for about $100 in total and the install was $50. If you do a search a quick search, you'll find the thread I started.
