Hi.

I think i moght have this same sound..


When on idle, it is not there, but while accelerating, the sound is there. And when i release the throttle, the sound goes away again..

However, this is not a constant thing with me. The sound can be gone for a month, and then come back.

Does anyone have the same experience as me.? The sound coming and going..?

Is the location right beside jack spot? Which mean I could to put endpiece onto the pipe end without need to jack up the vehicle. I just want to the experts to confirm me the location of evaporator drain tubes.

The picturesposed by faz and amacman are so different.

This is the picture that I took with my arm stick under the X5. But rubber endpiece seems to prevent the air been drawing into the pipe rather than prevent vibrating pipe to touch the adjacent body.

I have a similar sound but during decelerating and/or when the car is diving (braking, decel, etc). Very faint high pitch noise only experienced when HVAC blower is on.

But not always there.

Here is the endpiece parts that I got for my 2001 X5 V8. I put them on to the pipe right beside jack spot without jack up the SAV. It did not do a thing for me. If I am wrong on the location of evaporator drain pipe, please let me know.

The best way to describ the location is as if you are standing under the SAV when it has being lifted up, then point out relative location to your driver side front tire. Something like 2ft left of driver side front tire and then 3 feet toward back. Waiting for the experts....

if you took the time to read my post, you would notice the part numbers ive provided, and the picture of them 2 posts up? maybe you should have someone else read this thread to you.

I have the same problem with my 2005 X5 (4.4). Symptoms are similar as others described (whistling noise while accelerating). Mine sounds a little like running water.

I got under my X5 looking for the evaporator drain tubes. I think I found them but they look different than other photos on this thread. Can someone verify that the mentioned valve (part number 54 10 7 070 130 x2) will work for my X5? The diameter of the rubber tubes is about 1/2".

One problem I see is on the driver side where the tip of the tube is very close (almost touching) a part (see photo). If I attach the valve to the tip, it will definitely touch that part. Not sure if that part moves or generate significant heat--which might be a problem. I might be able to cut the tube shorter to make room for the valve. Any advice?
