Saw that a couple of weeks ago too...
I paid $40K shipped to Florida from Cali...Shipping was ONLY $700 (dealer did not tell me at the time, but sent me a check to cover the COD when it gets here)...So $39,300 + tax (here in Florida). Mine has the OEM 50K warranty (has 37K on it now) until 11/2010 and CPO until 11/2012. I LIKE the 13 mos of the bumper to bumper to cover ANYTHING including service. What is the in service date? I found one 06' that had only 2 months left...Must have been an EARLY 06'. If you get that for $36K, add a nice aftermarket 100K warranty for $4K or less. Not a bad deal for a one owner car. My BMW service guy (friend) told me some of the aftermarket warranties are better than CPO (he named Mercury as one of them). This may seem like a lot to some, but I wanted a near perfect car with nothing to worry about for the next 3+ years and 100K miles (I have 63K left). My car will go when the 100K mark hits. To me a $73K+ car for nearly 1/2 price and the nice almost new car warranty was worth it. My .02 anyway! Easy to justify anything! LOL

It really depends on how long you plan on driving it. The mileage on this is about average so not too bad. If this were CPO you would have the CPO warranty 2-3 years depending on in-service date. My experience with extended warranty companies has been negative--a lot of calling, inspecting, waiting, etc. But if you plan on keeping it that might be the way to go since if you are doing a 5 year note the car will already be 8 years old when you pay it off.

Yeah I am trying to keep it. I'm such a gear head so I've never kept a vehicle more than 3 years, so although I'll try I'm not making any promises. Frankly the thought of keeping past 100k is kinda scary. That's why figure if I can find one with mileage under 40k is the best bet.

I just picked bought a 2005 4.8is with 42k miles that has CPO warranty until Dec 2010 or 100k miles. I did not buy it from a BMW dealership. Paid under $30k.

Mine is black with black interior and has navigation. I have sport seats. Think most other options are standard on 4.8is.

Sounds like a good deal...most dealers are asking $40K+ for something similar but with CPO. Make sure it's well inspected and any issued addressed, then purchase aftermarket warranty. She's beautiful...I say it's worth it
