REPLACED ALTERNATOR CAR WONT START?!
Hey guys, any experts out there that have been through this please feel free to post.
My battery died wouldnt take a jump so I bought a new one at SAMS CLUB same group size as BMW battery, it was 3yrs old so about time cost $89 94R Energizer 3 days later car died again, tested the alternator that went bad bushings were worn out. Took it out myself, that was a project but Ill be happy to share some tips for doing it. Got the 120 amp VALEO rebuilt tested fine good as new. So I installed the alternator made sure the battery was fresh and cranked it up oh yeah I replaced the belts as well since I had it all off, everything plugged in okay, cranked it up and it started the first time and sputtered for about 5min then just stalled out. Now it will not even turn on, it just turns over like theres no gas in the engine or fuel is not making it to the cylinders, the battery is still cranking no problem, I thought the security fuel cut off was engaged so I used both car keys to make sure it recognized the key, I unplulgged the positive terminal from battery and turned ignition as well, that didnt help. I dont know what else it could be other than maybe the fuel pump but it was fine before so why would it fail all of a sudden when my alternator and battery went. anything I might be overlooking to get her running, so far the engine has been pristine running great have 146K miles on her. Thank you for any help, about to throw in the towel and have it towed to a shop. I am pretty good at fixing most things on this car but I am truly stuck!!! |

i think in the past people have had no issue but the X didn't start. it could be something with the transmission Park sensor. shift form park to N then back again. try to start. try to rest the computer. (leave the battery off for more than 10 mins resets the computer) check all your major fuses. (like that of the ALT)
4.4i? did you bleed you coolant system properly? i had an issue once where it just kept cranking. so i took the key out. shook my head, said not today, tried again and it worked. i threw a couple cuss words in there. i think that was cause my key was going bad - but i was under the impression if that were the case then the engine wouldnt crank. keep us posted.

This could be it
I pulled this crankcase sensor, under the bell housing on a 4.4. I think it is my problem and check the fuses

if the crank sensor is bad the engine will not start but will turn over. that looks awfully dirty. i believe the dealer can tell why its not starting/ i.e. not getting feedback from the crank case sensor.

Crank and Cam position sensors should be replaced. Every 50k or so both easy to DIY. My problem however was the iac calves and engine air hoses they were cracked and letting unregulated air in. Also the on board computer had abnormal power drain so my Indy basically reprogrammed it to factory settings and now its back to normal , he saved me about $450 vs buying. New one which the stealer most certainly would have tried to pull on me.
