Help - Key won't go into ignition

So here's how things started. Bought new wiper blades and came home to install them. Pulled into my garage and put it into park. Turned ignition off. Turned ignition to accessory to move wipers out. Let them cycle and turned ignition off. Removed the key.

Changed wipers and got back in to start it. Key will not go into ignition at all. Steering lock is not engaged as I can turn the wheels each direction. Any thoughts on fixes or am I stuck getting a tow to the shop to get a new lock cylinger? BTW its a 2004 4.4 w/ Sport package if it matters.

Still under CPO for what its worth.
Thanks,
Mike

I realize this was a quick post but I was surprised I did not get any response from the group. Oh well!

Even BMW was stumped and requested the full lock cylinder returned to Germany for evaluation as they have never seen this happen. End of the day it, along with the new keys was covered under the CPO. A rare case where it worked for me.

If nothing else, now the board knows it can happen and its not a figment of your imagination.

Glad you got it sorted.
The reason why the group didnt respond is probably because it never to happenned to anyone ,as you also found out yourself what a rare case it was.....
I only just saw this message, but the obvious problem would be the ignition lock/barrel .

There are cases where you cannot remove the ignition key but I personally never heard the reverse!
