1st I searched for a similar issue, found none.
2nd I have the ECS tuning BMW specific code reader It is a 2006 4.4i never in an accident 2 owner X5 The truck has the blinking light on the headlight switch that randomly comes on when using the X at night and the lights set to automatic. The codes only show AHL error I erased the code The headlights can be moved through the test function to all corners of their range. I changed the Switch and tested a known good Controller, one located behind glove box, and nothing changed When the light is blinking I ran another code test and it came back with no codes and can still move them with Code reader. What else has been done I Rewired both headlights since the wires disintegrated I changed the Xenon bulbs to a 6k bulb Added Can bus compatible LED angel eyes bulbs I do not want to do a further shotgun approach since it is expensive to change controllers under lights and the LCM I cannot find a decent Schematic of the headlight circuit, ie a PDF version. So no one has any input on this?
I am starting to suspect the Automatic Light Control. |

My 2004 with adaptive lights had the same error when I first got it but hasn't given me any problems for a couple of years. Not quite sure what the problem was, it just stopped giving me that error.

Mine with active xenons had a ton of errors when I first pulled codes from my X5 after buying it but the lights seem to work fine from what I can tell and the errors didn't come back.
Its hard diagnosing the things since they are sealed.

The Xenon ballast (63126907488) is sealed differently and does not allow H2O to enter its electronics. Quote:

Get the control unit for the driver side (if you can afford it, get the passenger one also). You need to remove the bumper (at least partially) to access the modules. These are interchangeable and work on either side. Seal them well.

I read a member had the same AHL error and was caused by the initial adjustment settings when the AHL first goes into it's left/down initialization.
Just for grins, make a manual vertical adjustment on the knobs and see if it has any affect when you have the lights in auto setting. Just remember to mark the adjustments how many turns you go so you can revert back if it is a no-go.
