They look nice. Will give the 4.6/4.8is look.
The grid mesh, in my opinion,is unnecessary!I would just yank it out and spray the interior and the oem tip matt black(high temp).

You will have to weld these. Also they seem to be only suitable for the 3.0i,as this is the only E53 whose oem tips point down.

I installed these tips before (signature photo) they look fine to me. However, mrbmw gave me his OEM tips and i replaced them.

If you want to have them, please PM - making a cheap offer.

I bought the black chrome version of these and wasn't happy with them at all as a bolt on. they look like a cheap bolt on especially with the mesh at the back and seeing the original tips partially hanging out the bottom. I grinded the spot welds inside and hammered out the mesh but you could still see the original tips. I then cut out the hose clamps welded inside and took them to a muffler shop and had them cut off the original tips and weld the new tips directly to the muffler. Unfortunately the guy welded them crooked and he couldn't get them back off so he only charged me $40 WOW! how generous! Jackass. Anyway, in retrospect I would have left the hose clamp on and trimmed the original tip short and just tighten the clamp like originally planned just with a shortened factory tip. If you want you can cut a piece of aluminum or something to fill the big hole at the bottom of the new tip(where the factory tip should come out) but IMHO it's not that noticeable so no biggie.

Lot of work and a lot of hassle there!
Why not just remove the mesh and paint the oem tips black....?This way you wouldnt even notice them....!
I do this a lot here ,especially on 3.0 Diesel, where we always leave the oem tips pointing down..

it was a bit of work, true. Everything depends on what degree of "look" your after. To me, getting tips that look like 4.8 tips means cutting the old tips and removing the mesh so it doesn't look sooo much like 4.8 tips covering 3.0 tips

not the best pics(iphone bad lighting) but it gives you a reference

LOL!! when i listed my old exhaust tips for sale you were giving me so much crap about listing them (still don't see what the issue was), and you said, and this is a copy paste quote, "I have X5 extras, but i dont sell, put them in my garage, if friends in forum need i will give them for free, and i am serious."

give it to him for free, you wouldn't wana look like a liar now would you
