Unhappy Issue with the Trunk Lid

I have this weird issue with the trunk lid. Every so often when I get in the vehicle and close the driver's side door, the trunk lid opens automatically. It doesn't happen all the time but at least once a day and it is very annoying. I hear the click and see on the display trunk is open. Anyone know the fix?

Care to elaborate on this a little more and what I need to do to fix it. I am not sure what the "lid grip" corrosion wiring harness is?

Taking off the trunk grip... Inside there is the wires harness for the Lic plate lamps.
Check that out ...

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Check that grip ilke Tom pointed out, and the only other semi-common problem for this is the wiring harness from the upper hatch getting chaffed inside the roof of the X5...

wee hijack .
I have been getting check num plate light alert for a week , loose left bulb I thought .
yesterday I got same alert followed by check rear fog lights followed by check reverse lights .
the alerts repeated a few times after clearing them via left stalk button .
the number plate lights are on upper tailgate and fog & reverse lights on lower tailgate .
Is this a sign of damaged wiring and if so , where should I look .
thanks chaps .

I my case it was the complete opposite but it could also be what's faulty on yours. My X was sitting unlocked, I went to open the liftgate and it was locked, so I would walk to the driver's door, open it, push the button to unlock the liftgate, closed the door, heard a click noise (it was the liftgate relocking itself), reached to open the liftgate, and it was locked. Very frustrating!!

I took it in to the stealers over the weekend and they changed the trunk lock actuator and adjusted the trunk cushions. It's an expensive part (51-24-7-111-008), luckily I'm still under warranty.
