Maybe they were trying to warn you about a speed trap ahead. The more considerate drivers around here do that all the time.

On occasion my wife drives behind my 330xi in the X5 and I don't find the lights bothersome. But then I have auto-dim mirrors so that may be the difference.

Yeah, I get flashed a little bit too. Mostly it is older folks in Caddies and Lincolns. These Xenons ARE very bright!! Driving a car around as a daily beater makes me realize how bright these headlights are.

I usually flash folks back just to let them know I'm not a dummy, my high beams are not on...

I recently saw an article in Consumers Report that rated OE Xenons and Halogens. They ranked BMW Xenons low because of their tendency to flash oncoming drivers.

I didn't see anything in the article that even touched on the high points of BMW Xenon including light output, pattern, bi-Xenon, self-leveling ability or adaptive system. Just that one comment which they said resulted in the low rating. Very CR...

Interesting point! on a different note.. i hate when i turn my fog lights but since they are not xenons they look different colors from my headlights. I dont like it much!! Can i change my regular fog lights for Xenon fog lights? and how much? i have the little round ones on a 2002 4.4.. thanks

I doubt that. This was on local roads and I was going the speed limit. Plus all 3 times me and the other drivers were going in opposite directions.

I thought my headlights were fine until one night when my wife and I switched cars. She was following me on the highway and the X5's lights were straight into my rear view mirrors! And yes it looks as though the high beams were on but it was just the low beam. Took it into the dealer to get them adjusted the next day...

P.S. I usually flash oncoming traffic if I see a cop hiding in the dark !

Yeah you can change your stock foglights with xenon HID fogs. No wire splicing necessary. Will take about 20 mins. Get the Prolumen kit from jlevi's website ($260). Make sure you select the correct bulb fitment though. I know it's h11 bulb type for 2004+, I'm sure it's a different fitment for yours. Oh yeah, you'll get the check foglight lamps error but it should disappear 10-20 seconds after. And the amount of glare is really bad.
