I've never seen G48, so are you saying that BMW coolant is just relabeled Zerex G48?

As m5James put it...phosphate free is important.

BMW dealer close to me does not even have coolant available...so it tells ya how important it is

Hey babyduke, since I don't know where X5world is, its kinda of hard to tell ya where to get it I know I've been able to find it locally at either Autozone, NAPA or sometimes even indy parts suppliers. Guys in Canada have been able to find the G05 for like $15 vs the stealerships $35. If you need tips for bleeding the system, there are some good writeups on e38.org BMW 7-series information and links. Keep us posted if anything else comes up.

I'm not seeing how you made that determination. The tech sheet linked in post # 13 says that it meets BMW approval. It does not say it is the same thing.

In any case G-48 is no longer available from Zerex (which would make little sense if it was relabeled BMW coolant, actually vice versa) and they have replaced it with G-05 which the tech sheet, interestingly, does not specifically mention BMW approval (whereas the G-48 did since it met BMW's N 600 69.0 specification and the G-05 does not specifically meet).

Also, annoyingly, G-05 is yellow in color. Also strangely I believe G-05 contains nitrites, whereas G-48 was nitrite free; perhaps that's why it is not specifically BMW approved.

Who at BMW did you ask? G48 & G05 (Glysantin) are made by BASF. I don't believe Zerex makes the G-48 anymore anyway, so we're stuck with buying OE BMW stuff.

Approvals : BASF Performance Chemicals

Interesting. Check out what I just came across. Strange that Zerex put it out given that it doesn't specifically meet BMW approvals and it's not even the same color, etc..
