MID missing pixels

Hey guys, I have a 2002 X5 3.0i. The MID is missing more and more pixels. Can this be repaired or does it have to be replaced? And I was quoted around $800 to replace it, is that correct?

Yes it can be repaired by using this diy i fixed mine 02 x5 4.4

PIXEL FIX DIY write up, about a 2 hour job and some patience (Long pic warning)

I pushed HARD on my local dealer to fix it for free and the did....
