What is the date stamp on those headlights? There should be a circle of numbers with an arrow pointing to the month and the year written inside the arrow found on the top of the headlight. I believe anything past 10/2002 cannot be opened.

I think the lights are correct and you really do have late production headlights.
I know that I have a 12/02 production X5 yet my headlights were made in 8/02. I don't think production date for the whole car is the same as the production date on a specific headlight. I think BMW just produces these are puts them in a parts bin, and when the time comes, a set is grabbed from this parts bin.

There should be a stamp on the housing itself, not only the rubber trim around the headlight. if that date is within the "breakable time"......then you're good. Bake'em up! Read through all those AE "how to" posts first though....And

Are you sure the car hasn't had the headlights changed? Has it been in any type of frontal crash or have the headlights replaced under warranty for some issue?
I'm pretty sure those headlights aren't lying about production year. That picture looks like it is a picture of the stamp on the housing. I don't know of any kind of stamp on the rubber housing around the headlight.
