Horn..

So I pick up my first X5 and am driving on the weekend and get cut off twice in the one street by other drivers, I press hard on the steering wheel and "meep meep" is all I get.

I do some looking in the engine bay and finally find the offender down the bottom of the LH in the engine bay.
I take a punt and start pulling off the wheel well wall and there it is - one side is broken.

After reading this and this I figure I have 3 options:

1 leave it and do nothing
2 replace with OEM
3 replace with a WOLO horn I took off my bike ala bimmerfanatic.

WOLO it may be.
I am looking for an update on a way to keep it working, should i change out the fuse straight away? Put in a resistor? Anything else to think of?

I will write up a DIY when i do it too.

Any feedback appreciated.

I installed a similar horn to the WOLO awhile back, which it is loud if standing outside the vehicle, but I have had a couple of times where I have blown it at cars and it did not appear that the people in the cars heard it. When I installed it, I just unplugged the OEM horns (2) and plugged in the aftermarket horn. I am thinking one of two things - (1) it is firing down and with the protective plastic under the vehicle maybe that is reducing the sound or (2) I need to use the relay that came with the new horn to insure it is getting anough juice.

Keep us updated on what you decide to do.

So i just rang the dealership about replacing the one side horn that is broken:

Part# 61338387342 and they quoted me AUD $174.36 / USD $158

For that price I could get the horn and new air filters (and probably more) all delivered from the US to Oz.

This announcement has been brought to you by the strong Aussie dollar and well priced US companies.

Not sure he posted this in the right thread - only thing I can find on a KL5a retrofit is for a LED flashlight conversion.
