Random Mayhem (Somebody PLEASE help!)
Anyways this morning I start the X up again and i get a BIT shaking and an error on my cluster something about EXT Temp 21 degrees. I'm assuming its just warning me that their might be icy roads ahead? **Crossing fingers**. Now, heres the most annoying part of it all. Thankfully the car is running and driving fine, it doesn't have any issues apart from the following one: the stupid FOB key. As I went towards the X I noticed that it in no way would respond to the key. which ever button I press I get 0 reaction from the car itself. I tend to make sure that RED light under the rear view mirror stays on solid red when i hold down the lock button but now I get nothing. I tried reprogramming it, i tried 2 of the 3 methods on the site and none of them work. I have reprogrammed the key in the past with a bit of trouble but i eventually got it to work, this time around its NOT working at all ![]() Could the cold weather be a cause of all this? If not then could it be because i have a hole bunch of stuff in the trunk of the X somehow messing up the signal from the key to the module? Please can someone help me out?! Thanks so much! |

You and me both. The cold weather seems to be doing slightly crazy things on startup and in 1st to 2nd gear, or reverse. The shaking thing is unsettling, but it must need more time to warm up. As far as the Ext temp thing, I always get this ding noise when it's below a certain temp where roads can get black ice.

Xs are sensitive to cold weather. Do a search on "cold" and you will see.
Most of the cold starting problems seem to come in two flavors (1) not much juice in the battery which causes the X to drop systems it deems unecessary (2) freezing of oil in the Oil Breathing components (again a search will show more and better information). If I were constantly getting messages and SES during the winter, the first thing I would check would be the battery for dead cells. As for the Key, sometimes it does not respond at great distances. I wonder if maybe you were expecting it to work from too far away. I assume that you kept trying until you were right up one the car? If so, then as you surmise, maybe the key has died.

One weird trick that I've read and used from this board is to touch the key to your chin and let your jaw bone send the signal out further. Everytime i get a balky unlock, I'll try that and it seems to work.

It can be the board cracked inside. A smart tech can weld the connections again or something... it happened to me, he repaired it in 10 minutes, 30$... he did not tell me the secret though!!
