Ahh...near the birthplace of the Federal Reserve. Congrats on the original bad-boy X5 and welcome aboard.

[QUOTE=imola38;694103]
-The trans shifts fairly abruptly from the 2-1 shift coming to a stop. It's a littla annoying and I'm wondering if a software update will fix the problem. The only way I'm able to avoid it is downshifting manually at a different speed and it' smooth. Anybody else seeing this?

My 02 4.4i does this sometimes. I notice it the most when I am crawling around in stop-and-go traffic. Funny thing is that when I switch over to sport, it doesn't do it. I am going to perform the reset and see if it clears it up.

-The P/S pump seems to whine alot at low speeds when boost is the highest. The fluid is clean and full, no leaks and th stering is super smooth. Maybe just "normal operation"?.

Belt tight? Otherwise

-Keyless entry is inop. I've checked all fuses and they're "hot". I'm leaning towards a general module problem./QUOTE]

Seeing as you are a tech, can I assume that you tried to reprogram the keys and that the batteries are still good?

I have a few comments about the X5 ownership so far. Even though I am a BMW technician, I've driven very few 4.6is's. The truck is a blast to drive- great power, love the gauge cluster and it's got to be one of the best looking trucks on the road.

A few small complaints:

After several trips to dealer and indy mod shops, the best answer i received was a PUMA case advising to "top off trany fluid"...even installed Dinan's S2 system, which helped but issue was not resolved. Sold it and purchased a much lower mileage 4.6iS, which i still own...rough downshift happens occasionally, even after trany reset.

In my experience...normal.

-Keyless entry is inop. I've checked all fuses and they're "hot". I'm leaning towards a general module problem.

Experienced this issue with my previous 4.6iS...dealer identified as central locking module (i believe) and replaced under warranty.

As I said, I've been a BMW tech for about 7 years but have only driven a couple 4.6's and haven't had alot of experience with them. Any of you savvy 4.6 owners that have these same complaints? If I know they're normal then I wont chase a fix.

Feel free to do a search on this forum...plenty of veteran 4.6iS owners have identified and addressed a cornucopia of issues. One of my favorite 4.6iS resources is member: JMH (jmh's X5 4.6is Home)

Thanks again guys!

-Ben

I just recently sold my imola red 2001 740i sport that i drove for 3 years. What a great car! I've had my eyes on a 4.6 for a while though but trying to find the right one at the right price was definitely difficult. The PO of this one has just replaced v.c. gaskets, valley pan, intake gaskets, plugs, trans fluid, pads/ rotors all the way around, fuel filter, water pump...the list goes on! Bascially the typical higher mileage M62tu stuff. The truck runs like an absolute dream I have to say.

I'm a BMW technician here on St. Simons Island. Any Georgia boys ought to be familiar with where that is. Do any of the Southeasters have get togethers? I also am in the process of purchasing a laptop GT1 setup with coding/programming capabilities and would be glad to help anybody in the area.

I don't have any pics of the beast yet as I just got back from Orland, Fla for the pickup last night at midnight in the rain!

This looks like a great forum and moving over from Bimmerforums shouldn't be any sweat at all . Sorry for the long post. Hope all are well!
Welcome and congrats!

I live in Atlanta, but often visit St. Simons. Let me know when you get the laptop up and running, I'd love to tinker with my X.

Awaiting pics.
