"Check Engine" & power loss & fuel consumption

Hello guys

Search function seem to be inoperable, so let's ask from you.

There's now an issue with my '03 4.4. Check engine light started to blink in the middle of driving. At the same time I noticed that the fuel consumption increased about 20%. Furthermore I noticed immediate power loss which was noticeable when accelerating. And finally when starting to drive with a slow speed, the vehicle vibrates. The same happens also when braking to crossings.

Any suggestions what's wrong with my car?

Not sure if you have autoparts stores here like we do, but ours will let us use their code reader for free. A blinking SES light means that you're having misfire problems and that your engine is spraying too much fuel, definately more than the sparkplugs can handle. The best and only way to fix this is to read the codes. Also, give the engine bay a really good looking over...pull and reconnect every sensor you can see to check for a good connection, check all the rubber lines you can see to check for vacuum leaks, check the intake boot for tears...just look around for anything obvious. Report back when you've got codes, that's all you can really do.

The problem was misfires in several cylinders. One coil was broken and was required to be replaced. In addition, all the spaks plugs were in "nasty condition" and they have to replaced as well.

Nice christmas cost: 900$. :-)
