oil for differentials

I never changed the fluids in my differentials nor in the transfer box. I tried to search on the forum but the answer is not 100% clear. Is it correct that the 3.0I has no LSD diff, so I can use synthetic 75W90 in front and rear diff and also in transfer box? Thanks in advance.

75W90 will work in the front and rear differentials. Some guys use Red Line, BMW fluids or Royal Purple.

But the transfer case takes transmission fluid. 83 22 9 407 858 or 83 22 9 407 859 (Dexron III) I used Royal Purple ATF. If you have xDrive 83 22 0 397 244 fluid.

Torque for filler and drain plugs is 44lb. 48lb if you have the plug with washer or 44lb plug with sealing O-ring. You will also need a 14mm allen socket.

After almost 5 years of owning the X, I bought the Bently manual. I should have done this years ago. It's fun to read.

I've done them both; Redline 75W90 for the diffs and Redline D4ATF for the transfer case. Its been about 20k miles since then and things are running perfectly. Here are my threads on it:

Yes, quite expensive but surely worth it!
