missing pixels only on Factory Radio Head Unit /display

I have checked the posts under pixels and cannot find a diy for the missing pixels on the Factory Radio Head Unit display above climate controls, also was wondering if removal to try and repair is as easy at is says on the tips page(pull off volume control know and turn torx bolt 90 degress) ?

How do i repair issue though?do the connectors need cleaning etc?

thanks

Here is a reply I had:

[/QUOTE]You can do the instrument cluster and radio separately. If you're missing pixels on the instrument cluster, you'll have to take out the entire cluster. It's held on with two torx screws, and you wedge it out. For the center radio display, you take off the volume button and you'll see a screw beneath the metal pole, you turn counter clockwise and pull.

mine too

My 2005 X5 has several pixels missing from the radio all in the vertical plane. Does the fix assume there are intermittent contacts between the ribbon cable and the board?

I've tried cleaning out my instrument cluster on my 2003 X5 4.6iS but no luck, it didn't fix the bad pixels. Tried both Eric and Edwin's write-ups. Yes, I did follow the instructions and drilled 4 holes into my instrument cluster!!!

Check out - Free Cluster Replacement (also includes Radio MID)

I've read through all 8 pages in this thread, both Leonora & Melissa are no longer there, emails will bounce right back. Yesterday, I've contacted BMWNA via toll free (800) 831-1117, my attempt to get it replaced for ~$90 + local tax through their "Good Will" program. Rep. told me that each case will be analyzed individually and did not promise me any price for replacement. Already faxed in my registration for proof of ownership, waiting for a call back sometime next week... with the holidays, maybe next year?

Here's a pic of my bad pixels on 12/18/2009. Could hardly make out the date!!! Appears like I only got 30k+ miles... actual mileage is plus another 50K!!!
