Wind?? noise from ceiling
I bought a used 2005 X5 4.4 earlier this year and recently joined the forum here. The car is great and drives much better than my previously leased 2004 Cayenne. now to the problem! At speeds passed 75 a whistling noise develops inside the ceiling . It sounds more like a tea kettle coming to boil! If I push or pull on ceiling felt, forward of the sun roof opening It gets loader or stops! What could it be??? ![]() appreciate any thoughts Stefan |

its prolly the cover for your sun roof, keep it closed and then test the noise.

Usually all that is needed for the common amount of wind noise is the sunroof surround seal and adjusting the glass panels to the right height. The rubber seal would get relaxed/compressed over the years and the new seals are made with a different/stiffer rubber to resist that.

I have the same thing on a recently purchased 2006 4.4 that is still under warranty. Is it possible to mosey into the dealer and just describe the noise and they will target the seal and more likely than not replace it? I ask because it's not life or death and don't know if it is worth it to pursue...
Thanks, Joe |

Thanks Joe;
unfortunatley my 2005 is out of warranty. I thought it might be a simple fix, short of going to the dealer. If you get yours fixed under warranty, please let me know what they did and if the annoying wistling stopped. Thanks Stefan |

Also, check the windscreen, when the seal starts getting loose, a whistling sound develops which gets louder with increasing speed. Was the windscreen recently replaced perhaps?
Cheers,
