Valet Key...

Does anyone use this key for anything other than keeping it in your wallet as a spare?

No...I must admit I have never used mine; it is still clipped to a paper tag with
a bar code printed on it. Dunno if it even works.

The plastic key is hidden in a magnetic key box, on the car...but no bad guy
is going to find it unless he has a 35"+ sleeve length and the car is on a lift.

I may go try my valet key, to see if it even works, lol!

.... so how do you get the key in the event you need it? i.e.: You missplaced your own.

I know exactly where the little magnetic key box holder is.
It's hard to find/spot even when up on a lift, but I can slide
just under the rocker panel and reach it with my 34" arm.

I take it out once a year, make sure it is dry & clean and works,
re-wrap it in Saran Wrap, put it back in its box, and place it
back in its magic hiding spot.

All my cars and m'cycles have a hidden key and I will never get
locked out again.

You're kidding, right?!

I was talking about the plastic, temporary, emergency key that came
with the two real keys and the valet key, on our '01. (Four keys, total.)

We use the two real keys; the valet key, which blktoptrvl ref'd in his
OP has never been used, and the plastic key. It is that plastic key
I have concealed on my car to prevent any lockout situ.

If you only got two keys, the dlr ripped you or, it was a used car and
the previous owner didn't cough up the other keys, or they were lost/misplaced.
Good Luck.

Actually I was referring to the thin plastic key.

What does the valet key look like and what is the diff between it and the main key?

the x5/ and any wagon did not come with a valet key, because there is no trunk to lock. the only thing that does lock is the glove box. the x5 comes with 2 master remotes and 1 wallet key.

Here's a pic: the "real key" is on right; the Valet Key is on left...
I just tried my valet key for the first time since car was new, and
8 1/2 yrs later it still works!
