Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 2002 BMW X5 3.0 but have had several BMWs in the past (e36, e32). The first thing I always do is upgrade the lights for the euro look (red/clear). Purchased led tail lights and clear side markers. I am now wanting to purchase the headlights. I have been reading previous threads on this forum and learning how much everyone here prefers the DEPO brand (vs. ebay ones). What's holding me back right now is the $$$ and the confusion of what is available and what conversions are required for the upgrade. I certainly like the newest LEDs: 00-03 BMW E53 X5 UHP 240-LED ANGEL EYES HALO HEADLIGHTS on eBay.ca (item 380190546895 end time 21-Jan-10 03:04:27 EST) OR the ones TOM sells: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-related-...tml#post689230 The thing is I have stock halogens. I understand I would need to convert first to HIDs. How expensive would this be? Could someone please also provide the exact url link to the lights I would (low beam and fogs right??). I am trying to figure how much this project would cost. Please keep in mind I live in Canada and shipping costs are sometimes just ridiculous...no clue why really....so it really does add up. I have also seen these: 00 01 02 03 BMW X5 ANGEL *TRUE* XENON HID HEADLIGHT E53 on eBay.ca (item 170421980206 end time 18-Jan-10 16:20:57 EST) If I convert to HID, would these lights also look white in colour? Thank you in advance. Last edited by bmwbmwfan; 12-25-2009 at 03:13 PM. |

What HID kit do I need for the fogs and low beams? Could someone please guide me and give me the exact url to them? There are so many out there? Is it like a generic kit x2 that would work for fogs and low beams? Or are there specific ones for each?
Note: I want as white as possile NOT blue....a little tint I could bear with...but white as possible. Quote:
Tom G, it might just come down to who offers me the be price. I am trying to determine the total cost for achieving what I want. |

I'm in Reno visiting family and I have a broken laptop screen, so trying to view and compare each ebay link from my Treo will take too long. I'll be back home on Monday, then i'll take a peak for ya bro. In the meantime, take a good close-up pic or give more details of your current headlights...do you have projectors already, self leveling, etc. My 4.4 didn't come w/ projector headlights, so even if I wanted to do an HID conversion, it'd look like the E36 that didn't have projectors, making the light horribly scattered and almost useless.

I've also been toying with the idea of adding HID headlights to a 2003 3.0i with halogen lights. The easy way to do this is to just purchase ballasts, lights for installation and level the lights manually so it doesn't blind oncoming drivers. This is different than an OEM setup as the OEM setup also includes auto-leveling sensors so the lights can automatically level themselves when a load is put upon the axles; this way, your lights will be always level and not blind oncoming drivers by pointing too high up or give you low visibility by points too far down. To get this "complete" retrofit to be like an OEM setup, it will cost around $1500 on eBay including all the wiring, sensors, ballasts and OEM headlights. You also need headlight washers, which is another $300 retrofit kit if you don't have it, for this OEM retrofit to work properly. This kit has also been discontinued from what RealOEM is saying, but I'm not sure if you can still get it in Europe.
