Question about License Plate Bulb/Assembly

Hi All,

I have a question about my licence plate light assembly. I am getting the "Check License Plate Light" error and when I did I noticed that the entire little metal brackets that hold the bulb in were completely corroded and broken from the circuit board.

So here is my question... Do I have to replace the entire "Trunk Lid Grip"

BMW E53 X5 M54 3.0L > Search > Trunk Lid Grip > ES#78256 Trunk Lid Grip (Black) - 51137170676

Or can I just buy these to replace it?

I have the same problem, i installed LED license plate bulbs and a month later one was out and it the brackets looked corroded, also there were a few black spots on the reflector. Im guessing you just need to buy the license plate lamp, I dont think the trunk lid has anything to do with, but let me know for sure if you find out because I need to fix that as well.

maybe I will drop a line over to the guys at ECS Tuning, I bet they would know. I have ordered from them in the past and they seem like they know their stuff... I will report back.

ok, chatted with John over at ECS... he seemed to think I just needed the replacements. I ordered 2. I will report back after putting them in.

well it looks like he was wrong.... my truck doesn't have the correct connections for this type of system. They must have changed it after my year or something. DAMN! That was a waste of shipping cost.

Looks like I need to get the whole system....
