LPMM, What dealer qouted you $166+tax my dealer quoted me like $250 so thats a decent price actually. I believe they have to order the key from Germany so it doesn't matter what dealer you get it from and according to the parts guy at my dealer it does vary from dealer to dealer.

My new master key

FYI. I paid $216.41+tax for a new master key and programming at Center BMW in Los Angeles.

I really thought you were being beyond sarcastic and I didn't know you sold said tool. My apologies to you for misunderstanding your helpful intentions.

Now, should I buy the key from the dealer if it will sit in a drawer, or would it be better to get the wallet plastic one? This would be strictly a spare in case we lose the original one, and I do not want the battery in the key to go dead on me.

Sears Imports (a.k.a. BMW of Minnetonka) here in Minneapolis. All they need is proof of ownership, it takes 2 to 3 days to get it, and after a quick initialization you're on your way.
