X5 Service Manual

Is there an after market source for technical and service information for the X5? I would like to know as much technical details as possible and do whatever maintence I can.

I bought a "technical CD" on ebay which was probably a bootleg copy of the factory information. The CD was not that usefull as it often referred to other BMW publications needed.

Thanks,

I've heard that it usually takes about 5 or 6 years after the car has been introduced until a manual comes out. Its mainly because the cars are still under warranty and most people dont do their own repairs.

what year is your X5?

2004 and later on line through bmw tech reference (not cheap -- $30/24 hrs or $300+/month). this is BMWs official NEW online repair manual for all shops/dealers.

or, if you are 2003- earlier, you need a TIS disk and an ETK disk or use realoemparts.com.

My X5 is a 01. The disk I got from ebay is a TIS disc, but unless I am using it incorrectly I can't figure out how to find service procedures like spark plug replacement and transmission fluid change. Yes, I know its lifetime fluid, but I want to change it eventually.

select the car model then click the documents button at the bottom right... there'll be a service or repair item for spark plugs.

tranny fluid change is simply a drain and fill... they only show where the two plugs are at...
