I'm in the same boat... I have GT1 V56 and SSS V32 on my laptop through VMware but have yet to get the ediabas/inpa setup correctly. The bad thing is I believe I know how to do what needs to be done on windows XP, but can't figure it out on 7. But I'm not exactly killing myself trying to get it working either as I always have access to the real shop equipment 6 days a week.

I also had the problem of E53 X5 2004 with no radio, no satnav, no dashboard indicator lights (although the lights did work) and no indicator clicking sound, and no reversing light. This happened after the battery negative teminal had been disconected for an hour or so.

I am taking an educated guess when I say that the battery disconection caused a reset of the car electrics and iBus. At this time if there is any third party 'Add-On' equipment fitted which interfaces with the car system or a malfunctioning device like a CD player not being able to eject its cassette, then the system may stall or display the faults that I and others have encountered.

The fix for me was to disconnect the 'Silverline Duo' iPod/iPhone interface cable from the the car and then start the car as normal to allow everything to load without any 'Alien' or malfunctioning device interfacing with the system iBus. Everything went back to normal working and the I reconnected the 'Duo' device which then worked as normal as the newly rebooted system was then able to communicate with the Duo. For information this Duo device replaces the CD changer in the car boot and allows an ipod to be connected instead. I would say a cars rebooted system must first be up and running before it can handle any non original equipment or malfunctioning devices.

Thanks to the guy who posted the clues that allowed me to come to this conclusion that fixed my car.
