Condensation in Oil
Now with the cold weather I am getting a good deal of condensation in the oil/engine. I try to avoid short trips (and I don't do warm ups) but, sometimes they are just unavoidable. when I removed the cap yesterday, there was what looked like vanilla pudding all over the inside of the cap. The engine was hot and there was actulally drops of clear water running off the inside of the cap as I tilted it. The oil and filter have about 3,000 miles on it. Should I change the oil now to get rid of the water? I had the oil seperator replaced last January, the dealer said they did the insulated upgrade to the o/S. I have never had a car that has been so fussy. They talk about english cars being mechanics cars... these german cars aren't exactly wash and wear. |

Change filter and oil. Once that's done wipe the mayo off the cap

If the outside temps drop into the single digits overnight and you park outside the condensation will freeze and prevent the oils separator from doing its job. The engine won’t be able to vent through the OS to the intake and pressure will build in the engine. I had the same thing happen, new upgraded OS at 80K or so and then the night mare again the next winter. The new OS and hoses didn’t break the second time but the pressure was so great it blew oil out of the oil cap and all over the right side of the engine. You should read my other post. Oil Separator Info / True solution. (1 2) The other thing I didn’t mention in my post is if you begin to see more smoke than normal you can pull over and slowly take off you oil cap. If any pressure comes out then the OS is frozen shut. At that point you would have to park the car until the OS and hoses thaw out.
