OBDII Ready codes, EVAP not ready?
I recently went through a bunch of fixes to get ready for inspection. The computer was reset and I am waiting for the 8 codes to ready on this actron (not sure of name) OBDII tester. Currently I have 7 ready which is good because I had SES for a few of them and a camshaft sensor. I am now waiting for the EVAP to complete. I already have driven over 600 miles as I just went from NY to deep PA . The EVAP system has not checked in or failed. The tester still says 1 incomplete. I am starting to wonder if the tester is reading the OBDII of the car correctly or if there is something else wrong. I checked the cable going to the "device" under the intake manafold, it looks secure.

I just want to report that the EVAP monitor finally went ready. I was doing some researching today about driving cycles and noticed some mentions about ambient temp needing to be in a certain range. Some of this info was for Ford, Bentley or GM vehicles but they all had their own required temp conditions and driving cycles. Well, its been cold lately in NY, below 30 at least, and from what I read ambient temps need to start around 40 degrees F. Also the trip to PA was completely useless for the EVAP, because it was much colder then NY. The EVAP will not perform a flush at that those ambient temps.
So initially I was just going to start vehicle, let it idle for 5 minutes, while not touching anything or giving gas. Take it for a drive at 55mph for 3 min and let the vehicle decelerate to 20 mph. Well, it turns out after starting the engine, I noticed ambient temp was 55, then I heard some click or something that I normally dont hear. I hooked up the OBDII and checked, the EVAP was ready. I think the noise was the "flush" where the canister opens and closes. So off to the gas station for inspection. |
