I might consider selling my supersprint setup. Let me know if you are interested. I am in NJ.

Mine is just a TAD louder.

You should do what sounds good to you. Try using Xoutpost.com - Search Forums for exhaust clip videos, or maybe even YouTube. BMWX54.4 made a post where he used some $25 ebay "Roku" or something like that mufflers that supposedly sound good, but then again what sounds good is subjective to each listener...I've never heard one in person, and YouTube or home made videos never do any exhaust systems justice IMHO. The exhaust gives minimal gain, if any, so unless you're going for name brands and bragging rights, spending a ton of money of a metal can w/ some insulation and perforated tubing is pointless.

Depends on your budget. Supersprint, Dinan, Remus are the more popular ones. I have the Dinan but it's pricey.

I bought my 4.8is with a Supersprint system already installed. I had the X shipped from Texas, and when I first heard it I thought they'd sent me the wrong vehicle. The vaunted Supersprint system? SO quiet I couldn't hear much noise at idle, so I had my resonator swapped for an x-pipe last week. Got a smidge louder, but not what I expected. It does roar a bit @ WOT. All the systems mentioned above are pricey, and I question what performance gain (or sound improvement) you get for your $$. Of course everyone has their own idea of what sounds good (agree 1000% with m5james). I've owned Jeep V8 performance models for many years; with exhaust mods they're considerably louder than my X. Knowing what I know now, I'd be hard pressed to say it was money well spent. That's my 3 cents, fwiw.

Supersprint, Dinan, Remus or get the 4.8is mufflers and do resonator delete on your 4.4i.

The problem w/ the above link is that your car is a 3.0, and the OP has a 4.4. Apples and oranges.

I did the Magnaflow 14816's mufflers on my 740iL and it sounds amazing...no drone, no popping, just a nice subtle growl at idle, yet quiets down just enough when crusing to keep it from being annoying. Many 540 and M5 guys did it as well w/ great results. The problem is when guys w/ 530's did it, and they got nothing but droning and rasp. Comparing the exhaust notes on an I6 to a V8 is like apples and oranges unfortunately. I know it's going to be hard since your in the moding mood, but some things you either need to pay and learn from (Magnaflows and an x-pipe on my 7 - HUGE mistake) and/or wait till you hear an X5 V8 in person and ask what they did. As I said before though, sound is all about your particular taste. When I made the mistake of x-pipe and mufflers, it sounded like complete A$$ to me...popping, backfiring on deceleration, sounded like a motor boat on the lake at full throttle, droned like mad...I HATED it for 2wks before I broke down and spent the money to have my stock resonators put back in. I've seen guys on the 7 boards that LOVE'd when they did it though, while all I could do is shake my head no at them while I envisioned a Civic "racing" past - TONS of exhaust noise, SLOW moving car.

I've had a friend drive my X away from my home for me, and to be honest, even compared to the custom mufflers I've done on my 7, the X to me sounds good as is. I happen to have an extra x-pipe from the mistake on my 7, but I think it was partly due to the combination of using both together. I've heard rave reviews of the stock exhaust w/ an x-pipe installed in place of the stock resonator (which is basically an internal x-pipe w/ muffler like baffling), but I don't know if I wanna take away from how it sounds as is. Have a friend drive it away while you stand there before you decide on anything. If it's still not enough, then make sure they do the same afterwards to ensure it's not too much and ruining the sound...inside vs outside sounds completely different.
